What is a packing list?
A packing list is created by the shipper to describe exactly how a shipment was packed — number of packages or cartons, net and gross weight per package, dimensions, and packing marks. Unlike the commercial invoice, it has no legal standing on its own, but customs and consignees routinely expect one to verify the cargo without opening every box.
